Exploring the Journey of Becoming a Foster Carer: Support and Guidance Every Step of the Way

Are you interested in becoming a foster carer but unsure about the criteria and process? Don't worry, you're not alone. At Origins Foster Care, our experienced and dedicated team is here to support you every step of the way. In this blog post, we'll provide an overview of the resources and support available to help you navigate the fostering journey.

One of the first steps in exploring the fostering journey is speaking with our recruitment lead, Eithne, who is also an experienced foster carer. Eithne will answer any questions you may have and guide you through the initial enquiry stage. Her firsthand knowledge as a foster carer and expertise make her an invaluable resource for potential foster carers to help them understand what's involved in becoming a carer.

To further support your decision-making process, you will be invited to attend one of our regular online information sessions. These sessions are designed to fit your schedule, with both daytime and evening options available. Attending an information session will provide you with insight into the process of becoming a foster carer, the types of children you may care for, and the support you will receive from Origins throughout your fostering experience.

In addition to gaining valuable information, you'll have the opportunity to meet a current foster carer during the session. This will allow you to ask questions and hear about their personal experiences with the assessment process and their journey as a foster carer. Hearing firsthand accounts can help you gain a better understanding of what to expect and decide if fostering is the right path for you.

Once you've attended an information session and determined that you meet the necessary criteria, you will be asked to complete an enquiry form. This form provides us with more information about you, your family, and your personal circumstances. After submitting the form, it will be reviewed by our team leader in recruitment and assessments, Clare Gleeson. She will ensure you are fully informed before deciding whether or not to proceed to the screening visit stage.

If you're ready to explore the rewarding journey of becoming a foster carer with Origins Foster Care, the best way to contact us is by filling out this enquiry form on our website. Alternatively, you can reach out to us through our social media, email, or telephone. Our dedicated team is here to support and guide you every step of the way, ensuring you have the information and resources needed to make an informed decision.
