Information Evening On Becoming a Foster Carer With Origins Foster Care - March 10th 2022

Here at Origins Foster Care, we feel privileged to be part of the world of providing good quality foster care placements to children and we look forward to working closely with like-minded foster carers and other professionals to impact the lives of our vulnerable children.

As a fostering agency, we have responsibility for finding foster homes for children in the Republic of Ireland. This means we need people, just like you, to take the time to consider becoming a family for a child in need of foster care. We pride ourselves on providing a professional, child centered and approachable service.

Our foster parents provide care for placements such as the following, depending on the needs of the child.

Short-term foster care

Children come in to care sometimes for anything from days to weeks or even months. Short term placements can be made for a variety of reasons, such as illness of primary carer, neglect, or substance abuse. Supporting children at this time of transition is a crucial part of short-term foster care.

Long-term foster care

Sometimes the best solution for a child in care is to remain with the foster family for several years until they can live independently at the age of 18. While these young people cannot live in their own home, regular contact with their birth family usually takes place.

Fostering can be hard work. However, we work with carers to make sense of this important task. We bring together all the professionals involved in a child’s life to create a plan that ensures the preferred developmental outcomes for children in our care and provides guidance to their foster carers.
