While many homes are filling with lights, laughter and family traditions, it’s important to remember that not every child has a safe or loving place to spend Christmas. For children in care, the festive season can be a particularly difficult time – a reminder of what’s missing, rather than what’s present. But with the right support, that story can change.
This November, we’re hosting a free online Introduction to Fostering session, designed to help you explore how fostering works – and how you might be able to offer a child the safety and care they deserve. It’s not just about Christmas. It’s about creating a stable, loving environment all year round.
During this relaxed, one-hour lunchtime session, we’ll walk you through the different types of foster care in Ireland – including short-term, long-term, respite, and emergency placements – and what’s involved in becoming a foster carer.
You’ll get a real sense of what fostering looks like day-to-day, and learn about how carers and children are thoughtfully matched. We’ll talk through the application and assessment process in a way that’s clear, human, and grounded in the realities of family life.
There’s no pressure to make any decisions – you’re welcome to come along just to listen, learn, and ask whatever questions you might have.
You’ll also hear directly from one of our experienced foster carers, who will share what it’s been like to foster during the Christmas season. Their story is an honest, heartfelt glimpse into both the challenges and the joy that come with providing care at a time of year filled with meaning.
It’s often in the smallest moments – a child hanging their first stocking, joining in a family meal, or feeling genuinely safe as the lights go up – that the magic of fostering is most deeply felt.
At Origins Foster Care, we believe support should be consistent, compassionate, and close to home. That’s why every carer has access to a dedicated Link Worker, 24/7 phone support, tailored training, and a wider community of carers who understand the journey you’re on.
We also provide practical financial support, regular check-ins, and space for reflection – because we know that your wellbeing is key to providing the best possible care to a child.
If you’ve ever considered fostering but wondered when the right time might be, now is a good moment to begin exploring. As the year begins to wind down and many of us reflect on what really matters, this info session offers a chance to take that first step – without pressure, just possibility.
Offering a child safety, warmth, and a place to belong could be the most meaningful gift you give this year.
Every child deserves to feel special, seen, and safe – especially at Christmas. If you have the heart to care, you could be the reason a child smiles this season. Come along, find out more, and discover just how much of a difference you could make.

Reach out for any questions and enquiries. A member of our fostering team will get back to you as soon as possible.
