A Quieter House… and Room in Your Heart?

A Quieter House… and Room in Your Heart? Come Along to Our Foster Care Information Session

There's a particular kind of quiet that settles over a home when young people head off to college. The washing machine runs less often, the fridge stays full a little longer. And many parents find themselves with something they have not had in years, time, space, and a whole lot of love with nowhere in particular to go.

If that sounds familiar, you might be exactly the kind of person a child in care is waiting for.

An invitation — nothing more

We are holding a relaxed, informal Information Session on Becoming a Foster Carer on August 24th at 7pm online, and everyone is welcome, wherever you're joining from.

Join us online from the comfort of your own home, make a cup of tea, settle in, keep your camera on or off as you prefer, and ask as many (or as few) questions as you like. You can simply sit back and listen if that suits you better.

Why parents at this stage of life make wonderful foster carers

Foster carers come from all walks of life, but parents whose children have recently flown the nest bring something truly special:

  • Years of real, hands-on parenting experience, the school runs, the teenage years, the lot
  • A dedicated bedroom that could become a safe, warm place for a child who needs one
  • Time and patience that busier years didn't always allow
  • Perspective, you know that difficult phases pass, and that steadiness matters more than perfection

You have already raised children so you know what it takes. And right now, there are children in our community who need exactly that kind of experienced, open-hearted home, whether for a weekend, a few months, or longer.

What you will hear on the night

  • What fostering actually involves, day to day
  • The different types of fostering (short-term, long-term, respite)
  • The support and training available to carers
  • Honest answers from experienced foster carers who once were where you are

Come as you are

Curious? Unsure? Full of questions? Perfect. That's exactly who this evening is for. You don't need to have made up your mind, you just need to be a little bit curious.

Monday evening august 24th 7pm

Let us know you are coming or ask a question beforehand, you can reach us at enquiries@originsfostercare.ie
