At Origins Foster Care, our team members bring not just qualifications and experience, but heart. In this edition of Inside Origins, we’re delighted to introduce you to Majella McMullan, a Senior Social Work Practitioner whose warmth and wisdom have shaped countless fostering journeys.
Majella has over 25 years’ experience working with children and families, both in Ireland and abroad. From Donegal to Gibraltar and back again, her career reflects a lifelong commitment to vulnerable children, to those who care for them, and to doing social work differently.
“My job is to ensure that carers feel heard, supported, and advocated for – so they can focus on giving children the best care possible.”
Majella McMullan brings a wealth of knowledge and a compassionate approach to her role as a Senior Social Work Practitioner at Origins Foster Care
With decades of experience supporting children and families, in Ireland and abroad, she's been a valued member of our trauma-informed team here at Origins for the last five years.
My experience – started working in Donegal and I worked with the HSE and with Tusla. I also had the opportunity of travelling to Gibraltar for a period of time, where I worked as Head of Children’s Services and then of Head of Disability Services.
Hear more from Majella herself in the short video below, where she shares her journey and what makes her work at Origins so impactful for foster carers and children in care.
As a Link Social Worker, Majella is the main point of contact for the foster carers she supports.
"My job is to ensure that they have the support that they need, that they feel that their voice has been heard and that they’re listened to, and that we advocate for services to support the placement."
Majella’s role involves regular home visits, helping carers navigate behavioural or emotional challenges, advocating for additional services, and providing both supervision and encouragement.
"If there’s something that we identify that they need support with, then we provide that service to ensure that we can provide the best care possible to our children," she says.
Majella pinpoints what makes fostering with Origins stand out for foster carers. Our entire model is built around high levels of social work contact, manageable caseloads for our team, and tailored services so that foster carers are empowered to provide the best support possible. Every child matters, and every foster carer is valued.
"Origins has a dedicated link worker for each foster carer," says Majella. "We provide a 24-hour service on call, so they have instant access to a professional practitioner in the event of a crisis or an emergency."
With Origins, carers have all the supports they need to focus on what matters most – caring for vulnerable children.
If you’re considering fostering, it’s not something you have to do alone. When you choose to foster with Origins, you join a supportive community led by people who understand the challenges and celebrate the rewards. Practitioners like Majella are at the heart of what makes fostering with Origins different.
